If you have a clover or two growing around your home, it would be wise to learn how to propogate holly. These beautiful little trees are edible and can be used for a variety of different recipes. Propagating one by yourself might be a little tricky, but with some help from a friend or neighbor, you should have no problem at all. To make the process easier, here is how to propogate holly with a friend or family member.
The first step in how to propogate holly with a friend or family member is to gather your tools. First, you will need a pot, a strainer, and a fork. The pot needs to be large enough for the roots to spread out comfortably. Your strainer will need to fit inside of the pot in order to keep the liquid inside. In order to get a good result, it’s important to remember to pour the liquid directly into the strainer as well.
Next, remove any dead or damaged leaves on your clover plant. It might be easier if you do this while the tree is young, as the smaller, more delicate branches won’t be affected by a lot of the damage. After the tree has been removed, remove all of the old or broken limbs on the pot.
The next thing you will want to do when learning how to propogate holly with a person or family member is to remove all of the small, broken branches on the plant. This is also important to ensure that the liquid can flow freely through the pot. Once all of these parts are removed, it is time to remove the tiny seeds from the clover plant. These are what will start the new cycle of germination in order to grow a new holly plant. Remove the seeds from the clover plant and place them into a pot in the same way that you removed the smaller broken branches. Make sure that they are securely held in the pot in order to ensure that they don’t fall out and become lost in the wild.
Now that you have removed all of the damaged or dead branches, you are ready to assemble the pot in the center of the bedding area. Once the entire pot has been assembled, add three fourths of a cup of water to the pot in order to allow the clover plants water to permeate the pot. Leave the plants in their pots for about an hour to allow the water to fully percolate the soil surrounding the clover plants roots.
When the clover has completely soaked in the soil, remove the plant from the pot. Remove all of the dirt and empty the pot of the grass clover. Place the plant in your garden and wait for the plant to grow to be approximately two to four inches in length and approximately one to two inches in diameter. Once the clover has grown to be a reasonable size in your garden area, remove it from the pot and place it on top of your flower bed.
In order to learn how to propogate holly, you must allow the grass to grow around the base of the plant. You should then remove the entire clover plant and any other small plants that were growing on it before you did this. The next step is to dig a hole that is the same size as the roots of the clover plant. Add about a quarter inch of new earth to the bottom of the hole. Place the plant inside the hole and secure it with a stake or hooks.
Once the plant is securely in the ground, it will need to sit comfortably until it begins to flower. The best time to try and get this to occur is in the spring when the plant is most active. The last thing you want to do is have the clover tree near a cold spring frost. The beautiful flowers of the holly plant can be lost if it is forced into the ground during these harsh weather conditions.
